VdU meets MELAGENCE.
On May 14, 2025, our Berlin showroom transformed into a vibrant space for exchange, fresh perspectives, and future-oriented dialogue. The occasion: an exclusive get-together hosted by the Verband deutscher Unternehmerinnen e.V. (VdU), held under the theme “Fashion and Sustainability – Opportunities and Challenges.” Around 20 female entrepreneurs from diverse industries came together to discuss responsible business practices, corporate accountability, and innovative paths toward a more sustainable fashion landscape.
The VdU, which has been advocating for the visibility, networking, and political voice of female entrepreneurs for over 70 years, once again lived up to its mission of bringing vital future topics to the forefront.
Three experts offered insightful perspectives on the topic: Johanna Tybussek, lawyer and founder of Jovity Solutions, addressed corporate responsibility in the context of human rights. Antje Meyer, co-founder of the innovation agency nextblooming GmbH, explored pathways to future-proof business models. Mela contributed her years of experience from the fashion industry. Together, they tackled a pressing question: how can companies act credibly and responsibly amid the realities of fast fashion, greenwashing, and increasing pressure to demonstrate sustainability?
The evening was not just about practical solutions. At its heart was a critical reflection on the term sustainability, its overuse, its evolving meaning, and, most importantly, its potential. The takeaway: legal regulations remain the most powerful driver of change. However, true transformation requires new narratives and stories that make the value of sustainable action visible on economic, social, and cultural levels.
Running alongside the event was our Sample & Stock Sale. Alongside select pieces from current collections, we curated a special selection of high-quality vintage garments. Brands like Christian Wijnants and ZENGGI demonstrated that design, quality, and sustainability are not mutually exclusive but perfectly complementary. These two events made one thing clear: there is tremendous potential in responsible entrepreneurship, and sustainability should not be treated as a trend but as a mindset.
We’re grateful for the insights shared and would like to thank all contributors and speakers for making this event so valuable!
