The creation of MASKA springs from a vision of a high-quality brand that combines luxury fibers and refined, Scandinavian aesthetics. In a small sewing mill in a Swedish town famous for its textile industry, MASKA’s founder Maria Svensson used to run around playing with threads and textile leftovers gathered from the floor at her grandmother's feet.

The mill was run by her grandmother and her great grandmother, who taught her about true quality and workmanship behind the products. With traditions going back to the sewing mill, the idea of using exquisite yarns, fabrics and elaborate structures, as well as applying artisanal knitting techniques, is the brand’s solid platform.

At MASKA we have a profound understanding of the character of the fibres: what fibre should be used in which garment and how it should be treated. Natural fibres, such as wool, hemp and linen have unique and excellent attributes.

We hand pick all yarns and fabrics and always keep direct contact with the spinning mills and weavers, to make sure the fibre choices and yarn suppliers align with our beliefs and visions. 95% of our knitwear and wovens are produced in the EU, following the labour laws and the strict chemical regulations of the European Union. All knitwear yarn, except from the cashmere and silk blend, is spun in Europe.

We commend the raised awareness in the fashion industry regarding challenges of the planet, responsibility and the need for action. MASKA offers garments that improve with wear and manifest a way of consuming that recalls how we consumed clothes decades ago. Instead of focusing on fast-fading trends we praise quality, material knowledge, function and craft. Our design emphasises timeless modernity and the garments are made to be worn for many years. While making every step in the production process as sustainable as possible, the one thing that really makes a difference for the environment is reduced consumption.
